Production Waste Gets a New Life

Recycled Felt Material from Production Waste

We aim to become fully circular. One step on that journey is our recycled felt material, made from leftover pieces from our own production. When we cut out parts for our garments, small pieces of material remain. Since 2015, we have collected these leftovers and turned them into new products such as insoles and seat pads.

Our goal is to become fully circular. Our recycled felt material was the first step on that journey.

We have optimized our production to minimize waste, but when we cut out garment pieces, small pieces of material remain. Since 2015, we have used these leftover pieces to produce a recycled felt material.

The material was first developed through a collaboration between Kajsa Nilsson, then a student at the Sports Tech Research Centre at Mid Sweden University, and Woolpower. Since then, we have continued to develop new products using the same material.

Today we reuse around 30 tonnes of production waste to create new products made from our recycled felt material, such as insoles and seat pads.

Using leftover material to create useful products is both smart and sustainable. In addition to our own products, we also collaborate with several other companies that manufacture their own products using our felt material.

FAQ About our recycled felt material

The waste comes from our own production. When we cut out garment pieces, smaller pieces of material remain. These are sent to a partner who shreds and presses the waste into felt.

The felt material is then returned to us on rolls in different thicknesses and shades, depending on which products were being produced when the waste was collected.

Today we reuse around 30 tonnes of production waste each year to produce items made from our recycled felt material.

Waste from our production is collected and sent to a partner who shreds the fibres and presses them into felt. The finished felt material is then delivered back to us on rolls.

We make insoles, seat pads and slippers from the felt material. You can also buy felt sheets if you want to create something yourself.

If you make something using our felt material, we would love to see it. Share your creations on Instagram using #woolpowerDIY.

No. We also collaborate with other companies that use our felt material in their own products, such as Icebug, Trangia and Dalum.

Felt insoles

Did you know that the insoles we make from recycled waste material from our garments have actually won an award?

The insoles received Gold at the ISPO Award in 2014 in the accessories category within the outdoor segment.

They contain at least 50% merino wool and help retain warmth while transporting moisture away.

In addition to ready-made insoles in sizes 36–47, we now also offer a DIY Insole, so you can cut your own insole to fit perfectly in a pair of shoes you already have at home.

Felt Slippers

Whether you call them camp slippers, cabin slippers or felt slippers, they are made for comfort.

Our Felt Slipper works just as well in the cabin as at the campsite. The colour may vary depending on what has been produced in our factory while the production waste used for the material was collected
