Choose the Right Base Layer

Don't let cold temperatures hold you back. A soft merino wool base layer keeps you warm, dry, and comfortable in any weather. Explore our guide and find the right base layer for your needs.

1. Do You Feel Cold Easily?

If you often feel cold, Ullfrotté 200 is the perfect choice. The unique terry-knit construction creates an insulating air layer that helps retain body heat, making it ideal as a next-to-skin layer.

If you naturally run warmer, you'll appreciate Woolpower LITE. Made with a high percentage of merino wool, it offers all the benefits of wool while feeling cooler against the skin thanks to its knit construction.

2. What Activities Will You Use It For?

During high-intensity activities, you need a base layer with good moisture management to prevent overheating. Woolpower LITE is designed to keep you comfortable when you're on the move.

For low-intensity activities or longer periods of rest, insulation becomes more important. In these situations, Ullfrotté 200 is the ideal choice thanks to its ability to trap large amounts of air within the fabric that creates better insulation.

3. What Weather Conditions Will You Face?

In mild conditions, breathability and moisture management are key to staying comfortable. Woolpower LITE helps release excess body heat rather than trapping it in an insulating layer, making it an excellent choice for active days in moderate temperatures.

When the temperature drops, insulation becomes increasingly important. Ullfrotté 400 is engineered to keep you warm in challenging conditions. Its terry-knit construction traps insulating air, creating a barrier against the cold and delivering lasting comfort throughout the day.

FAQ

A base layer made from soft merino wool keeps you warm, dry, and comfortable in any weather condition, even during high-intensity activities. Unlike other materials, merino wool is highly effective at both insulating body heat and wicking moisture away from the skin, even when the fabric becomes damp.

It's a base layer you can rely on whether you're walking to work or trekking in the mountains.

Ullfrotté Original is a fabric made from soft merino wool. Thanks to the terry loops on the inside of the fabric, it provides excellent insulation and effective moisture management.

With proper care, a merino wool base layer can be used for many years. Here are some of our best care tips:

Air it out
Merino wool naturally inhibits bacterial growth and absorbs odors, which means your garments can often be aired out instead of washed.

Follow the care instructions
Washing causes more wear than regular use, so washing less frequently and using the correct cycle will help your wool garments last longer. Our base layers can be machine washed at 60°C.

Store it properly
Merino wool is a natural material that can attract moths. To help protect your garments, store them in a bright, well-ventilated place. We also recommend storing them folded rather than hanging, as this helps maintain the shape.

Pilling is natural
Merino wool is a natural fiber and may develop some pilling over time. This is completely normal and does not affect the garment's performance.
